After installing FreeBSD I really needed to decide what email server I was going to run on it. Sure, FreeBSD had a sendmail implementation but I felt that I wanted to do more than sendmail would easily allow so I looked around and after telnet'ing to a few more promenant mail servers, of those disclosing their type in their banner, Exim seemed the most prolific - if people were prepared to advertise they were running it, it must be secure.
